Are tablets dead already?
I will be the first to declare that tablets are dead. Well, at least for me as a productivity device. It has been few months since I got the iPad and I’m bored and done with it already. I don’t think I will use a tablet again. Maybe in trade shows and conferences to show some product demos, but that’s it.
Why? 5 things: Keyboard, Mouse, Editing Documents, MacBook Air, and iPhone4.
I need a real keyboard. I tried cases with a bluetooth keyboard for the iPad, but then using a touch screen with a keyboard and no mouse is very annoying. Apple should let anyone use a mouse with the iPad, I don’t think that will limit the sales of their other devices.
The combination of a MacBook Air and iPhone4 is giving me all the portability, productivity, and entertainment I need. The Air has replaced my iPad. I can do everything on the MacBook Air faster. I type on it faster, use the multi-touch trackpad better, and I can run flash and Photoshop. I can even take it to bed. It weighs almost the same, well slightly more, and has a great battery life. And with the new Mac App Store, there will be as many apps & widgets for everything.
On my wish list would be a new version of MacBook Air with an unlimited 4G data plan and a flexible multi touch high resolution screen. Let’s see what the next versions of all these devices will do.
